Mid-Century Modern Design

When designing a blank space sometimes its hard to get started.  I love starting with a favorite fabric or rug to draw inspiration from.  Today I am teaming up with Chairish, a site where you can buy and sell vintage furniture and decor.

My design started when I saw this amazing antique Mohtashem Kashan rug.  I loved the deep blue and rust in the rug and used those colors to guide my design.   I paired the vintage rug with some more mid century modern pieces to give it a really eclectic, modern feel.  I really went out of my comfort zone with this design but I love how it turned out!

3 Ways to Style Your Bump

When I started blogging again I mentioned wanting to expand my topics and pull in some more of my own interests.  Today I wanted to give it a shot with a fashion post!  And if you're just here for the home decor posts- don't worry,  I'll be back at it tomorrow!

I put together a few looks for styling your "bump" as the warmer months are approaching.  I'm a firm believer in the motto "you gotta look good to feel good" and being pregnant it's even more important!
Maternity Style, Casual, Activewear and Formal www.olivelaneinteriors.com

Fit Bump- I try to keep up with going to the gym and getting in some exercise and cute work out clothes are always motivation to get there more often.  I love the ruching on this tank- it lets you flaunt your bump but is also super flattering.

Casual Bump- I can't wait to start wearing maxi dresses again- there's nothing more comfortable than a light knit maxi.  The turquoise earrings and gold sandals are perfect for the summer.

Dressed Up Bump- I picture this as the perfect outfit for a baby shower.  The cap sleeves are really flattering on the dress and I love it paired with this statement necklace.  Best part about buying accessories right now- they'll fit after baby too!

Decorating with Poufs for Every Style

Poufs are a trend I've been seeing for the past few years and I don't see them going away anytime soon.  They've proven themselves to be a useful accent piece and as they grow in popularity I'm seeing more styles and colors to suit every home's style.

I just recently bought my first pouf for baby R's room to use as an ottoman.  I'm not completely sure it's the style I want for the room (more on that later)  so I've been trying it out in other parts of the home- using it as a foot cushion in my office to an extra seat in the living room.  This little gold pouf is proving to be a versatile accent piece!

A few of my favorite ways to style a pouf in your home...

These poufs add some texture and color in this cool, modern space

In a nursery as an ottoman with a rocker.  I love this alternative to a matching rocker and ottoman set.

A comfy spot to rest your feet under your office desk.

Adding some interest under a simple coffee table

An ottoman in your favorite reading corner

Or as some extra seating in a laid back living room

And here are a few of my favorite poufs!

Home Office Update

Feminine Home Office Update White and Gold Leopard www.olivelaneinteriors.com

I've probably changed my home office 10 times in the past 2 years and knowing me it will probably change again but here's what it looks like today!

White Desk Feminine Home Office Update White and Gold Leopard www.olivelaneinteriors.com

What's new?  First starters- I traded in my 8 year old laptop for this fancy new Mac.  Next, I upgraded my pinboard to this gold framed beauty which I found at Pottery Barn Teen.

Keeping up with the lux feel of the pinboard, I made this leopard pillow.  Fabric is Braemore- Jamil Natural from the Fabric Mill.

I like to keep my desk neat and clean so I use this little agate box to keep scrap paper, receipts and any other odds and ends.  I bought it a few years ago but its from Jonathan Adler's Happy Chic collection for JCPenney.

The Year of The Pineapple

I know it's a little late in the game to be making predictions on 2015 but I'm going to make mine anyways.  2015 is the year of the pineapple!  It's long been a sign of welcome in a home but now it's getting a fun new reputation as we start to see it in clothes, jewelry and home accessories.  This ain't your grandma's pineapple (ok, that just sounds ridiculous)

Pillows for the Family Room

My family room pillows were getting a little beat up and to be honest I was over them.  I love making a few small, inexpensive updates to completely change a room.  Over the weekend I sewed up some new pillows for our family room.

The ikat fabric is by Magnolia Home Fashions- Java Ikat in Pewter.  I purchased it at Fabric.com

The trellis patterned fabric is by Kravet- Riad in Coconut.  I purchased a few yards from Life On Virginia Street's Fabric Store.

Another new addition to the family room, this side table from Pottery Barn.  It's the Chloe Side Table in Black wood finish.

Here's What...

I was feeling the love this week with Valentine's Day on the way when I put this round up together.

Athleta has been stealing my heart from Lululemon lately with the printed crops.  I'm pretty sure if I bought these crops I'd be inspired to get to the gym more... or I'd wear them on a the weekends and just look like I worked out.  That's the same thing, right?

I pinned this champagne drink recipe this week first for the beautiful photography but second because I think it looks super tasty.  This would make for a pretty little Valentine toast.

The greek key pillows I used in my guest room from Target are on super sale right now!  Use code BEMINE and get 10% off.  And if you spend $75 on home items (which is way too easy to do at Target) you get 15% off.

I'm loving the way the scallops on this sweater from J.Crew Factory makes it instantly girly- perfect for Valentine's day.  I'm also a huge fan of any white and grey combo.  Dear J.Crew Factory- please start making maternity clothes.  Love, Me.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Progress on Baby R's Neutral Nursery

Over the past two weeks we have made so much progress on Baby R's room!  In case you missed it- here is the gender neutral nursery idea board I shared last week.  You can read more about it here.
Neutral Nursery Design Board www.olivelaneinteriors.com

My husband (thank you!) painted the room Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Grey and I LOVE it!  It's the most perfect light beige-grey I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.  In my next house I'm going to paint every single room that color- no lie.

We also had an electrician come out and install the Large Capiz Lotus Pendant from World Market.  We hung it more like a ceiling flush mounted fixture than a chandelier but I feel like it's the perfect light for the room.  The shells really help to diffuse the light in the room.

Pottery Barn Wingback Rocker White Caitlin Wilson Gold Dot Pillow Land of Nod Gold Pouf www.olivelaneinteriors.com

Next up- the rocker, dresser and ottoman all arrived this week!  The rocker is the Wingback Rocker from pottery barn kids.  Aside from it being pretty- it's also super comfortable.  I really like how high the back of the chair is so I can rest my head back.  You can also swap out the rocker part for stationary legs which is great for repurposing the chair in the future.  The pillow is the Gold Dot Pillow from Caitlin Wilson textiles which I stole from our living room.

The gold pouf is from Land of Nod.  It's actually a lot bigger than I thought it would be but that's a good thing.  It works really well as an ottoman with the chair and I think it adds some fun to the room.

Pottery Barn Emery Dresser Simply White www.olivelaneinteriors.com

Dresser is the Emery Extra Wide Dresser from Pottery Barn Kids.  It's gorgeous and that's all I can say about that.  Don't mind the furniture sliders under the feet- I'm still deciding where I want the dresser to be.

We're off to a really good start with the room.  Just waiting on the crib to arrive to decide exactly where everything will go and then its onto the artwork and accents.

A New Light in the Kitchen

The light fixture over our kitchen table has been bothering me since we moved in over 3 years ago.
It's just kind of "vanilla"...

Sorry about the crappy old photo!  I swear I took a better "before" photo but now I can't find it... blame it on the baby brain.

I've had my eye on replacing it with an orb light fixture but couldn't bring myself to spend the money on one so when I saw the Benita 5-light Globe Chandelier from Overstock for half the price as most lights I had to pull the trigger and order it!

And I am so glad I did!

I love the way it complements the drapery hardware and the art prints on the wall behind it.

Here's What...

Here's What www.Olivelaneinteriors.com

I love these espadrille flats for spring and these Target ones are only $25 and as if you needed more reason, they are currently Buy One Get One 50% off!  I already bought the leopard pair but I may need to go back and get the black ones.

Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere shared baby's nursery this week and it is super cool.  It's got a laid back California girl vibe but still maintains some girly, whimsy.  Love!  Make sure you check out the full room tour on her blog.

My mom sent me this video from Food & Wine about the correct way to deseed a pomegranate and let's just say I have been doing it all wrong... this could be why my kitchen looks like a scene from Dexter every time I try to cut into one of these.  I have to try this!

How cute is this french bulldog coin bank from Z Gallerie?  I'm a sucker for all things frenchie and I'm thinking Baby R might need this...
