E-Design: Chicago Apartment After

Yesterday I shared some before photos and the e-design I did for a client in Chicago and today I am so excited to show you the afters!  (If you missed it you can check out the before here!)

A defined dining area using the existing table and adding a graphic print rug and sleek white chairs.

A funky little coffee table!

We changed the accent wall from dark brown to Benjamin Moore- Kendall Charcoal.

I love this detail shot!

I am so excited about how this e-design turned out.  It's always fun to work with a motivated client- she completed this space in less than a month!

(I only share a few out of respect for my client)

E-Design: Chicago Apartment Before

I just completed an e-design with a client in Chicago and I am so excited to share the design!  E-design clients that are semi-professional photographers make for great after photos but before we can get to that... here are some before photos!

My client came to me wanting to finish off the space and make it feel more like "home".  She was really struggling with layout of this large one room which contained the guts of the apartment- kitchen, dining room, living room and office.  The sofa, chair and desk were recently purchased and had a great mid-century modern vibe that I just wanted to enhance with the new pieces.

Here's the final e-design for the space!

To help define the different spaces in the room we went with an area rug for each space.  The area rugs create a visual delineation of each space without the use of walls or dividers that would close it in.  We were even able to fit in a coffee bar which freed up a lot of valuable kitchen counter space.

Stop by tomorrow when I'll share the final photos of the space!
Ahhh it's good to be back ;-)

E-Design Client: Formal Living Room

It's been so long since I shared an after photo from an e-design client.  I've been sitting on a few great photos from clients that I keep meaning to share and then keep forgetting...  Forgive me friends!

This e-design was for a client that was looking for a formal, sophisticated living room and was starting with a completely empty room.  My client had recently painted and the carpet was brand new so those were the only things that stayed.

Here's a look at the E-Design I created for her... as well as the floor plan.

Neutral Nursery Design

In case you missed my post last week- we're expecting our first baby in May!  We decided not to find out the gender, although now that I've started planning the nursery it's killing me not know!  My plan is to keep it really neutral with white, beiges, greys and gold so that once the baby is here we can decorate it more to that specific gender.  Over the next week or so we're installing the World Market Capiz Light and hopefully getting the walls painted in Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray.  I'll update with photos along the way!

E-Design Client: Entryway

Everyone loves a good before and after!  Here is an e-design I did for a client that was looking to add a cabinet with some storage to her entryway.  She simply wanted to add furniture and artwork without changing any of the paint colors.  It always helps when you are starting with a beautiful space!

She wanted a calm, soft entryway and we came up with the design below.  A cabinet that would provide some storage and a really soft abstract painting.

And here's what the entryway looks like today! A few small changes made a big impact!

E-Design Client: Luxurious Master Bedroom Design

I completed this e-design for a client over a month ago but it has been one of my favorites to date!  My client contacted me with a goal to "to make the room relaxing, peaceful, clean/organized, luxurious, and romantic. Like an upscale hotel room, but at home! I want to enjoy being in the room, but currently, just feel stress! "
She already had a great start to the room with her freshly painted walls in a dark charcoal gray and a newly wallpapered focal wall.

First we worked on a new layout using her existing furniture.

We decided on placing the head of the bed centered against the accent wall.  Next we changed the placement of the dresser and wardrobe cabinets so they were on opposite sides of the room to break things up a bit.  We relocated her sitting area to the opposite end of the room.

And finally her design...

I cannot wait to see the final photos and will be sure to share them!
Thanks so much to my client- it was my pleasure working with you!

E-Design Client: Family Friendly Living Room

A few weeks ago I received an e-mail from a client in Germany- stationed there on a military base with her husband- looking to work with me to re-do her living room.  Her project posed a couple of challenges- 1. her location: everything chosen needed to ship internationally and 2. her military housing meant limited painting capabilities or any permanent renovations.

She was looking to update with accessories and other smaller furniture pieces while keeping her existing sofas.  Her preference was too keep things warm and family friendly.  Working together I came up with this e-design board with all things she could purchase online and have shipped to her in Germany.

I tried to add as much color as possible into the space so she could avoid doing any painting.  The pattern on the rug and drapes makes the room feel a bit more modern while keeping it warm and kid friendly.  She needed a new TV stand and was looking to keep the TV up and out of reach of the kids.  I chose a dresser for the TV stand for the height as well as all of the storage it provides.  We also decided to do a gallery wall around the television to remind them of home and family while they are in Germany.

Her motivation was inspiring and I can't wait to see how the finished space turns out!  I'll be sure to share the updated photos!

E-Design Client: Home Office

Just last week I started working with my client Stephanie Hayden Minix, real estate superstar, on an e-design for her home office. (they're starting to be my "thing" right?!)  Anyways, she's a super successful real estate agent in Philadelphia and does a lot of work from her home so it had to be functional and inspiring.  After talking about her likes and dislikes we thought a modern neutral space would be perfect for her.

Now that's a desk chair that says who's boss.

And if you are looking for a real estate agent in the Philadelphia area Stephanie is your girl!  She's got some of the best listings I've seen in the area.
Be sure to check out all her listings at: www.dalyluxuryhomes.com/

Home Office E-Design

I'm really excited to share an e-design I did for a new client. She e-mailed me asking for help with her home office. She needed a place that she could work from home when she needed to as well as her husband (ie. no girly stuff!) and she needed a lot of storage for pretty and non-pretty items! Her home is actually local to me so I popped over for a visit to check out the space.

At 10' x 8'6" it's a nice size room and has just one window.  Who doesn't have a room like this in their home?  We wanted to get the room looking light and bright but not boring. Here's the final design board!

The wall paint Benjamin Moore: Nimbus 1465 is a soft grey that will lighten up the room.
For the furniture I stayed light as well. The desk is a glass top and has a chrome X base. The chair is a medium grey leather with silver nailhead accents that compliment the desk base.

I chose the oh-so-loved Ikea Expedit bookcase in white for her storage. I love how you can pick and choose how much you want to use as display and how much you want to use as pure storage. And if over time she needs more storage she can add baskets.

She expressed the need for additional seating as well, something with high sides if she wanted to keep an eye on her son so we chose a modern shaped, small scale club chair.

Now for some color!  First I started with the blue and white fretwork drapes. By framing out the window with drapes and mounting the drapes close to the ceiling it will add height to the room and the window will appear larger. I found the very cool yellow, grey and blue ikat accent pillow on etsy and a yellow desk lamp to compliment it!  All of the prints in the space- fretwork, chevron and ikat give the room an updated, modern style!

I can't wait to see the finished room and will be sure to share the "after" pics with all of you!

Fashion Friday : Saucy Glossie

This week's Fashion Friday features super talented Lindsey Calla of Saucy Glossie.   She has an amazing blog and best of all she styles outfits for a "real girl budget"!  I've been craving spring badly so when I saw her In the Air outfit I immediately got inspired!

I used her painted floral t-shirt as my inspiration for the color and kept everything soft and light!  I gave it a color punch with two yellow moroccan poufs- similar in color to her purse.  I love to use moroccan poufs to add color to a space.

Fashion Friday : Sophisticated in Style

This week's Fashion Friday features Lauren from Sophisticated in Style.  Lauren is a blogger newbie just like me so I'm thrilled to be featuring her!  After looking through some of her outfits Victorian Pattern caught my eye.  I loved the print of the pants and clutch and thought it would translate really well into a room design.

Lauren is an MBA student so I decided to do an office design for her.

E-Design : Dallas Apartment

I'm working with a client right now that is moving from New Jersey to Dallas to a 1 bedroom apartment.  He's a 20-something single guy who is looking for his place to be "grown up". I was really excited for the opportunity to work with him because I'm usually designing for women and my own personal style can be somewhat more feminine.  During our initial phone call he said he knows what he likes when he sees it but can't really describe it, so I started with some inspiration photos to see what he liked.

Here are the photos I sent him (all via Pinterest)

interesting masculine space
He said he liked all of them but the first two were his favorite.  From there I put together this e-design board and after a few revisions with the rug we came up with a winner!
The round blob in the top center is the paint color Benjamin Moore- Pashmina AF-100.  Since my client likes classic movies I chose two movies posters he could frame and hang.  The drapes will be used on a sliding glass door to replace the existing vertical blinds.  Also important to note- everything on this board came to under $2,000.  Great design is possible with any size budget!  Can't wait to see the finished product and I will definitely be sharing those photos with all of you!
