Gallery Wall Inspiration

Are you guys over gallery walls? Ok, good me neither!  I know they are all over but I still love them so this weekend I am doing the one I talked about in my new years resolutions post.  I'm writing about it here so you guys can keep me accountable!  Whenever I'm starting a new project I start searching out some inspiration.  Here are some of  my favorites.

Fill 'Er Up

I recently received a question from a reader, Lauren, regarding what to fill her new glass vase from Pottery Barn with.
Evleen Mercury Glass Vase
Pottery Barn Evleen Mercury Glass Vase
For starters- what a beaut!  I love all things Mercury Glass right now.

One of my first thoughts were flowers- I love to have fresh flowers in the house but their freshness is usually pretty short lived so I usually go faux.  I love hydrangeas and they're on sale right now at Pottery Barn!!
Faux Hydrangea Stems

To make them look real use craft water- here's a pretty little how-to!

Maybe flowers aren't you thing?  I love river rocks with a pillar candle or just plain river rocks.
Small River Rocks, Light Quartz Gray
You can get them at most craft stores or I found them for cheap on this website.

If you're using your vase in a bathroom- collect some bars of soap to display.  (Hint- If you travel stash a few bars of soap from the hotel in your suitcase.  If you travel often you'll have a lovely collection in no time!)

C. Wonder Pillows

I was over at C.Wonder browsing their new spring clothes when I stumbled upon these pretties in their home decor section.  C.Wonder is one of my favorite sources for home decor in graphic patterns.
I love their selection of mint, coral and navy and they all range from $38 - $48!

Fashion Friday : Something About Patry

Today's Fashion Friday comes from Patry at Something About Patry.  I'm extra excited about this one because Patry is a fellow Philly blogger!  She's putting together great looks everyday with a really unique style-make sure you guys check her out.  I chose her Minty Fresh look!

I love working mint into my wardrobe but I haven't tried it yet in home decor and wanted to give it a shot.

I chose the upholstered mint chairs to go at either end of the table and the oval back chairs to be seated along the long sides of the table.  Mixing up the wood tones in the room gives it some interest and keeps a dining room from feeling too formal or stuffy.  I saw those pretty metallic pillows and thought they'd be fun to put on each of the mint chairs for a little bling.

O'verlays by Danika & Cheryle

I just found this website the other day and I am OBSESSED!  O'verlays is a company that makes all sorts of fretwork that you can add to basic IKEA furniture that makes it look amazing- for cheap too!  They've already taken all the measurements so you know they will fit to your exact door or drawer.  They also have a blog where you can see a lot of step-by-step directions and finished O'verlays projects!

Pax Wardrobe- this one's insane!
Reminder- this is what Pax wardrobes start out looking like...

Love the metallic- that's the Xandra on a Malm.

And it's not just for furniture...

Here they used it on a door painted with chalkboard paint

I am in LOVE with this website and will certainly be trying some of their fretwork out around my house!
By the way- this was not a sponsored post, I'm just really that excited about it! :-)

Hutch Hunt

Remember when I posted my New Year's home resolutions?  If you don't you can read it here.   Well, I haven't done any of them... but I am making moves on one of them- the dining room hutch!  I've pinned some painted hutches that jumped out at me and I think I have a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for now.

Really like the look of the doors removed and the accent of light blue around the edge!

Obviously I was drawn to this one because of the grey and white chevron but I love the detailed panels on the bottom cabinets and drawers!

Really digging the color of this one...
Painted Hutch $300 - Southborough http://furnishly.com/catalog/product/view/id/2645/s/painted-hutch/ - I need this in red

This one is so pretty- love the all white styling

So I think I am settled on looking for a hutch that has closed storage at the bottom with the option to remove the doors at the top.   As far as color goes I'm thinking a pale grey/blue might be nice.

Have you ever painted furniture?  Any tips?

Workin' With What You Got: Kitchen Cabinets

I'm trying a little something new today so let me know what you guys think but I'd like to start a little series called "Workin' With What You Got".  It's not always a possibility to do a total house makeover because of budget, renting or maybe what you have isn't so bad!  Sometimes a few little changes can make you embrace and love what you already have.

White kitchens are EVERYWHERE.  Do a search on Pinterest and the majority of updated kitchen photos are white.  Now I have nothing against white kitchens, I actually really like them but what if you have *gasp* cherry or oak cabinets!

Take for example- my kitchen.  It was recently updated, all stainless appliances and nice new cabinets done by the previous owner.  I think my husband would drop over dead if I told him I wanted to paint all of our cabinets white.

So here are a few small tips to getting your kitchen feeling updated and modern without breaking the bank.

1. Paint Your Walls Grey
The quickest way to get your kitchen looking updated is giving the walls a fresh coat of grey paint.  A warm tone will just bring out the red/warmth in the cabinets, grey tones down the warmth of the cabinets.

2. Update your lighting
Get rid of the wimpy little pendant lights and upgrade to something a little more industrial.  This will give you a fresh modern look without too much work

I'm loving these ones from Lowe's right now!

3. New Counter Stools
Not everyone has a kitchen island but if you do- updating your counter stools can pep up your kitchen too!
Something with clean lines, upholstered in white (obviously a highly cleanable fabric) will get you that modern look you are loving in all of the white kitchen inspiration photos.
I love these pretties from Ballard Designs!

4. Update your Hardware
Changing out your old cabinet pulls to a brushed nickel or rubbed bronze bar pull will make a huge difference.
I like these ones from Lowe's

And when all else fails... buy some pretty accessories!
